Grand Hôtel Courchevel 1850 Overview
You know that moment when you step off the ski lift and the air smells like pine and woodsmoke, and you’re already trying to figure out how to extend your stay? That was me last February at Grand Hôtel Courchevel 1850. I’ll be honest — I’ve stayed in a few fancy alpine spots, but this one? It doesn’t try to shout about how posh it is, which I actually appreciated. The entrance is low-key, tucked just off Rue Park City, and once you’re inside, it’s all warm wood, soft lighting, and that quiet hush that only five-star hotels in the mountains seem to have — like the world outside just… slows down.
The room I had faced the slopes, obviously — and I’ll say this: waking up to first light hitting the Bellecôte peak with a fresh dusting of snow? Worth every euro. You can ski right back to the hotel via the green run (it’s gentle, don’t worry), and the ski valet guys — especially Jean-Marc, who’s been there forever — remember your gear setup. Little thing, but after a long day, it’s nice not to fumble with frozen buckles. The spa is dreamy — not one of those massive, echoey ones where you feel lost — but intimate, with a cedar sauna that smells like a forest after rain. I went around 4 p.m., quietest time, and soaked in the outdoor hot tub while it started snowing. Magic.
Breakfast is a spread of local cheeses, fresh viennoiseries from the bakery down the lane (they deliver twice daily — you can smell the croissants), and strong coffee served in proper cups, not those tiny espresso bowls. There’s a snug lounge with a fireplace where people actually read books instead of scrolling — rare these days. Now, fair warning: weekends in January and mid-February get busy — like, “where’s my quiet corner?” busy — so if you want peace, aim for late March. Also, parking’s underground but tight — good luck with a rental SUV. Valet’s the way to go.
I mean, it’s not perfect — the Wi-Fi sputtered once during a video call — but honestly, you’re here for the mountains, the silence, the way the light changes on the snow every hour. And this place? It gets that. You leave feeling reset, not just pampered. If you’re coming to Courchevel and want luxury that doesn’t feel stiff, this is your spot.

Reviews of Grand Hôtel Courchevel 1850
Excellent hotel with super staff – Jill from United Kingdom – 25 March 2025 (9/10)
The friendly staff, having someone in the ski room to help put your boots on and take off at the end of the day. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, warm and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble, flexible and willing to help in any way they could.
The room was big, clean, well appointed, heated, comfortable bed and luxury bedding. Quiet at night,
Again I say the staff were fantastic.
Location for the slopes and the town was first class, right on the slope or a very short walk to the main lift station, you can be taken by mini bus too.
Ski hire in the hotel.
What could be improved: I felt the breakfast could have been a little better, it was very good but not exceptional and repetitive. Very limited cooked breakfast, hash browns and sausage on buffet, eggs to order were good. No beans, mushrooms, tomatoes etc.
Cakes were delicious, a lemon one and cherry when we were there. Plenty cheese plus smoked salmon and cold meats.
The pancakes and waffles were rock hard, having been in the warmer far too long, totally not fresh and inedible.
So overall it was very good but a the side of other 5 star hotels visited it was adequate. I think the hotel was quiet so to cut waste the selection had been cut.
The bathroom needed upgrading, quite dated.Great location for skiing and enjoying everything in Courchevel. – Lynette from Australia – 10 March 2025 (10/10)
Ski in and ski out, friendly helpful staff, close to all facilities and restaurants, bars, cafes
What could be improved: Didn’t have spa facilities but we were offered the use of the hotel next door which had the BEST spa facilities I’ve used anywhere. The lobby bar wasn’t really inviting for drinks as there are no drinks on display and often was not staffed and we had to find the staff elsewhere to serve us. We found better bars in the neighborhood to enjoy pre dinner drinks.Good – Kaan from Turkey – 26 January 2025 (7/10)
Staff and location
What could be improved: Rooms and facilitiesI will definitely be back, and will be excited about it. – Sultan from United Arab Emirates – 18 January 2025 (10/10)
BEST HOTEL EVER.
Everything was perfect.
They’re so helpful, everything is provided.
The ski rental place was amazing, the workers were amazing.
Enora, Aurora, and Adam. They made my visit remarkable and not to be forgotten.
The room is spacious and the room cleaning was VERY CLEAN, one of the best hotels in room cleaning.
We put our brand bags everywhere and nothing was stolen.
So this hotel is 100/10.
Perfect location.

What could be improved: No gym or spaVery nice hotel – Paul from United Kingdom – 5 April 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: How unhelpful the receptionist was when we were leavingSuperb – Martin from United States – 4 April 2024 (9/10)
Location, room views
What could be improved: PriceVery good – Mohammad from Saudi Arabia – 30 January 2024 (8/10)
Location
What could be improved: The breakfastGood clean hotel excellent location ….. thats about it – Tom from United Kingdom – 21 January 2024 (7/10)
Location excellent very clean
What could be improved: Hotel took 700€ deposit however made you pay for all purchases immediately. Complete absence of staff in the bar which meant we only had one drink in our 7 day stay. Other guests very arrogant seemed to relish in slamming doors. Finally and a minor point. Luke warm scrambled eggs is not a great warm option for breakfast
