Lake Hotel Courchevel 1850 Overview
So, I’ll be honest—when I first pulled up to Lake Hotel Courchevel 1850, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s tucked just off Rue du Jardin Alpin, right in the thick of 1850, but set back enough that it doesn’t feel like you’re stepping into the ski circus right when you walk out the door. There’s this quiet hum to the place—probably because it’s surrounded by pines and just a short, slightly uphill walk from the Jardin Alpin lift. You know what? That little walk actually works out great after a day of skiing, gives you a minute to thaw out and shake off the cold.
The lobby’s got that cozy alpine-meets-modern vibe—think exposed wood, warm lighting, and the faint smell of woodsmoke (they’ve got a fireplace that’s always going in winter). It’s not some over-the-top palace, but it feels lived-in and real. My room faced the back, overlooking the small lake the hotel’s named after—honestly, waking up to that still, glassy water with the mountains behind it? Worth the 7.5 rating alone. And the bed—god, the bed—was one of those you sink into without wanting to get up. Bathrooms are clean, a little dated maybe, but stocked with proper toiletries and thick towels. Oh, and hot water? Never ran out, even after a long ski day with four of us rotating showers.
Breakfast is buffet-style, nothing fancy, but they’ve got fresh croissants every morning (you can smell them baking around 7:30), local charcuterie, and a guy who makes omelettes to order—don’t skip that. The spa’s small, yeah, but the sauna and outdoor hot tub are solid after a day on the slopes. (Pro tip: go around 8 p.m.—it’s quiet, and the stars over the lake are unreal.) Parking’s a bit of a squeeze if you’ve got a rental, but they do have valet and it’s covered—big plus when it’s dumping snow.
It’s not the flashiest hotel in Courchevel 1850—that’s for sure. You want glitz, head to the 5-star spots near Les Chenus. But if you want a place that feels like a real mountain retreat, where the staff remembers your name and you can actually hear the wind in the trees instead of bass from a nightclub? This is it. I’d stay here again, especially in late January—fewer crowds, fresh powder, and the hotel’s just… calm. Like you’ve found a secret no one else quite knows.
Apartments in Courchevel provide travelers with an authentic local experience, allowing them to shop at traditional Alpine markets and cook with fresh ingredients from the renowned Savoyard culinary traditions.

In terms of positives, the hotel staff was very friendly, and incredibly patient given all the client complaints they had to deal with on a daily basis. The daily breakfast was good quality, and the staff was always positive and hardworking. The location of the hotel was good, very easy to access from the runs, and easy to get to lifts for Courchevel and Meribel. I cannot emphasize enough how hard working and patient the hotel staff was given all the limitations and problems that the hotel clients had to deal with on a daily basis.

Location was perfect (middle of the slopes with direct access to the slopes).
Hotel reasonably quiet (no parties, people walking with ski boots in the corredors, loud music/TV).
Good breakfast but not wonderful.
