The spa — oh, the spa — is low-lit and quiet, with a sauna that overlooks the trees. I went at 9 p.m. one night and had it entirely to myself. The restaurant, Helix, is worth a splurge — their venison tartare with juniper oil? I still think about it. And yes, there’s valet parking, but fair warning: the driveway gets tight during peak week in January — get here before 3 p.m. if you’re driving.

Look, Courchevel’s full of fancy places, but Le Strato feels different. It’s not trying to impress you with chandeliers or gold taps. It’s more like someone with really good taste built a luxury lodge just because they love the mountains. You’ll pay for it (obviously), but you also get that rare combo: five-star polish without the stiffness. I’d go back just for that morning coffee ritual — standing on the balcony, skis clicking in the rack below, the whole valley hushed under fresh snow. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down — which, let’s be real, is why you come to the Alps in the first place.
