Résidence Les Sapins – Courchevel 1850 Overview
You know that moment when you step into a place and just *feel* like you’re somewhere special? That’s Résidence Les Sapins. It’s tucked up on Rue de Bellecôte—quiet, slightly uphill, but totally worth the five-minute walk from the main drag in Courchevel 1850. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect—no star rating, just word-of-mouth buzz—but the second I walked in, the smell of pine wood and that hushed, alpine-lodge vibe hit me. It’s not flashy, but it’s *real*. Think exposed beams, soft wool throws, and floor-to-ceiling windows looking straight into the snow-dusted trees. You can hear the muffled crunch of boots on fresh powder outside, and at night, it’s dead quiet—like, *actually* quiet—except for the occasional clink of a wine glass from the lounge.
What I loved? The little things. Like how the staff leaves handwritten notes with local tips—where to find the best *tartiflette* (it’s at La Folie Douce, but go early), or which ski run to avoid on weekends (Jardin Alpin gets packed by 10 a.m.). The apartments are self-catering, which is great if you want to save a euro or two—there’s a tiny grocery just down the road, and the kitchen’s well-stocked with proper pans, not that flimsy stuff you usually get. Oh, and parking? There’s a private spot—gold in Courchevel—though it’s a tight squeeze for bigger SUVs. Check-in’s low-key, no long lines, just a warm welcome and a shot of *genièvre* to warm you up. It’s not a resort with a spa the size of a football field, but honestly, do you need that when you’ve got ski-in/ski-out access (well, almost—two-minute walk to the Bellecôte lift) and a fireplace that’s lit every evening by 6?
I stayed in January, shoulder season, so it felt intimate—like the staff actually remembered my name and which wine I liked. In peak weeks (Christmas, February holidays), it’s busier, but still never noisy. The design? Sort of French chalet meets Scandi minimalism—wood everywhere, but light, not dark and cave-like. Some places in 1850 feel like they’re trying too hard to be luxurious. This one doesn’t. It just *is*. You’ll leave feeling like you stayed somewhere that gets it—alpine charm without the pretense, convenience without the chaos. If you’re after understated elegance and real mountain soul, this is your spot.

AVOID AVOID AVOID. It was dirty, smelly, cigarette smell was constant in the room, we could not even stay there! Had to spend a fortune and book somewhere else. Apparently you need to book bed sheets, towels for a separate fee, looks way way worse in reality than online. AVOID AVOID AVOID!
